The Community
All of us in our Palm Beach Community have observed, if not directly experienced, the impact of alcoholism and addiction on a family member, a friend, a co-worker, or to a business. The $300 billion a year cost of substance abuse estimated by the National Institute on Drug Abuse includes lost wages, loss of business profitability, welfare costs, health care costs, criminal justice, and incarceration costs. Of course, no one can put a price tag on the heartache of ruined families and thousands of unnecessary deaths that could possibly have been avoided if alcohol and drug rehab programs were more widely available.
Fortunately some individuals seek out treatment help, starting their long term recovery and rebuilding their lives. Hundreds come to Palm Beach County each and every month entering one of the 137 treatment centers in the area to begin their recovery process. Many stay for a period of time, entering a Halfway House to begin their recovery process, before returning to their community of origin. Some choose to stay in Palm Beach long term.
An Important Community Resource
Second Chance is dedicated to being an invaluable resource to our Palm Beach County Community – where so many come to begin their recovery. We believe all individuals serious about their recovery deserve a second chance to improve their lives by reconnecting to the community.
Second Chance seeks to actively involve businesses, individuals, colleges, universities, and trade schools to assist people serious about their recovery – to help them construct a bridge back to success in the workplace, thus reconnecting to the community.
